I have only worked for one software company my whole life and am in sales, so cannot appreciate the complexities of creating and delivering a roadmap. But my company has a long history of creating a roadmap and missing it badly – sometimes new features come off entirely, or sometimes they are years behind. We pitch ourselves as a premium provider (at a premium price for sure!) but need massive development to get to table stakes with some of our competitors.
I know a common complaint is that the C suite changes strategy all the time which disrupts projects that are mid stream. That is not the case here though – our strategy has remained largely the same, it just seems like execution sucks.
is this normal for software companies or just mine?
